There is an option where Mac users can disable the App Nap feature on an app-by-app basis if they find that this feature is interfering with the performance of a background app. App Nap helps you save power when you’re working with multiple apps at the same time. If an app is completely hidden behind other windows and isn’t currently doing something, the App Nap feature conserves battery life by slowing the app down. If you’re on a Mac desktop, however, and battery life gains that App Nap brings doesn’t actually matter to you, you can completely disable the feature across your entire Mac.

STEP 1:Go to the Utilities folder, then go to Terminal.
STEP 2:Enter this command: “defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSAppSleepDisabled -bool YES” then press [Enter].
NOTE:Restart any apps that are currently running in order for the changes to take effect, or simply restart your Mac to disable App Nap on all your applications.
STEP 3:Launch Activity Monitor to check if any of your apps that are hidden in view are using App Nap. To do this, you can either search for Activity Monitor using Spotlight or navigate to /Applications/Utilities and look for Activity Monitor.app.
STEP 4:Click on the Energy tab and take a look at the App Nap column.
NOTE:If you later decided to reverse this change and re-enable App Nap, simply enter this command in the Terminal window: “defaults write NSGlobalDomain NSAppSleepDisabled -bool NO” then press [Enter].
